COACHING GROUPS 2017

Organization
• Group size: 6-8 scientists accompanied by 1 coach
• 5 coaching groups in 2017 (4 at ETHZ & 1 at EPFL)
• “Academic age” of participants was taken into account: Doctoral Students and postdocs, other young scientists.

Costs
• Fee for 5 coaching sessions for participants from the ETH Domain: CHF 250.
• The price is doubled for participants coming from other institutions.
• Possibility for the  participants to have one additional individual session for CHF 50.

CAREER CAFE – SPRING 2016

Career Café: World Café technique (adapted): Small-group discussions with top women in professorships and managerial positions.

Participants: The event addresses female scientists PhDs, Doctoral Students and other young scientists. The number of participants is limited to 60 persons.

Seminar on “Strategic thoughts on job applications – matching market needs” by Dr. Monika Clausen
To be successful in application processes requires a compelling selfpresentation.
Using an approach and material equitable in academic settings will most likely not meet the expectations of the commercial market.Independent on the aim, applicants will have to reflect on the current situation in the labour market, a cautious evaluation and matching of existing and requested skills are as crucial as a thorough idea of the added value to be offered.
Successful applicants know about the fundamental differences in academic versus industry application  documents, the potential sources of errors, and manage a convincing self-presentation.More documentation: Flyer

Academic Pipelines in Science and Technology: Meet successful women with academic backgrounds in these fields.

  • How do established female professors account for their success?
  • What were their strategies?
  • How important is plan B?
  • What are attractive options and how important is it to keep them open?


Method: World Café technique (adapted): Small-group discussions with top women in professorships and managerial positions.

Participants: The event addresses female scientists PhDs, Doctoral Students and other young scientists. The number of participants is limited to 60 persons.

COACHING GROUPS 2010-12

The coaching groups took place at ETHZ (6) and EPFL (2)  between fall 2010 and spring 2012.

Concept

Coaching sessions are a platform for the participants to have the possibility to reflect their plans and visions, to look for alternatives, to get help in decision strategies.
Aims

  • Tosupport scientists in their career planning process and to allow participants interchanging (Peer-Mentoring) and improving personal networking
  • To make participants aware of possible alternatives to academic careers
  • To support them in decision reframing, in creativity processes, in getting over past conflicts, help them reflecting their own situation

Costs
The fee include 4 coaching sessions for participants from the ETH Domain, CHF 200, other participants: CHF 400.

Participants

The number of participants is limited to 8 participants/group. They will be selected based on the date of registration and will be allocated in relation to their “stage” or “age”: Doctoral Students and postdocs, other young scientists.
