Intro
Are you a postdoctoral researcher who has great ideas, a passion for science and would love to have your own research group? Yet, you feel that all these years of training have not prepared you enough for suddenly managing people, funds, and politics while being successful with your research? Many scientists define the transition from a postdoctoral position to principal investigator as one of the most challenging periods in their academic career. Becoming aware of all the diverse aspects that the role comprises can help you to prepare for this move. In this workshop, we will discuss about the challenges associated with becoming a group leader alongside possible solutions to tackle them.
Workshop topics will include:
- Planning your lab and negotiating resources
- Establishing your own group – the challenges of hiring people
- Securing funding while carrying on your project
- Managing your time wisely
- Getting noticed in the research landscape
- Work-/Private-life balance
